Pandolph: www.cpantoon.com YOUR NEIGHBOR WRITES FOR MAD MAGAZINE. AND HE’LL BE ON STAGE SOON. PORTLAND, ME - It just wasn’t enough for Corey Pandolph to contribute to Mad magazine, home of Alfred E. Newman and the Usual Gang of Idiots; or to have a nationally syndicated comic strip. He felt the call of the limelight. Enter Dan Bernard, local comedy raconteur, who gave Pandolph his first stage moments since high school earlier this year. It wasn’t long before the two comedic worlds shared a beer. The duo pooled their ideas, jokes and resources and cooked up a comedy casserole of improv, sketch comedy, political parody songs and video. “One More for Johnny” was born, Johnny being a legendary Portland burlesque king of the distant past. “He was a felon, a cult figure, a genius,” claims Pandolph. “He was Portland’s first comedy icon,” deadpans Bernard, who insists the archival footage to be shown on November 8 as part of the show will disprove all doubters. “Our cast is incredible, too,” offers Pandolph. “One More for Johnny” plays the St. Lawrence Theater (stlawrencearts.org) November 8, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 at the door. A full cast presentation, videotaped for later broadcast. |
